In a major bonanza for millions of government employees ahead of the festive season, the central government has announced a substantial financial reward. The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister has approved the payment of a 78-day bonus for railway staff, bringing immense cheer to workers across the country.
According to official announcements, the government will disburse a total of Rs 2,009.61 crore under this Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) scheme. This decision is set to directly benefit around 11,40,770 non-gazetted railway employees, acknowledging their hard work and dedication towards improving operational efficiency.
Who is Eligible and How Much Will They Get?
The PLB payment serves as an incentive to motivate railway personnel. Each eligible employee will receive an amount equivalent to 78 days of wages, which translates to approximately Rs 17,951. This payout covers various categories including track maintainers, loco pilots, train managers, station masters, technicians, pointsmen, and ministerial staff.
Other Major Cabinet Decisions
Apart from the railway bonus, the Cabinet also approved the continuation of the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) for five years from 2026-27 with a massive outlay of Rs 53,428 crore, ensuring sustained support for elderly citizens, widows, and persons with disabilities.
