Olympic medallist and legendary Indian boxer Mary Kom finds herself embroiled in a fresh personal controversy as her former husband, Onler Kom, has officially filed a criminal defamation case against her. Onler claims that Mary's remarks on television and various public platforms have severely damaged his reputation and social standing.
Legal Action Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
The case has been registered under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which carries a potential sentence of up to two years in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for November 19, 2026. While confirming the legal battle, Onler stated that he has a strong case and complete faith in the Indian judiciary, choosing to refrain from detailed comments due to the matter being sub judice.
Past Financial Allegations and Counter-Claims
Earlier, Mary Kom had levelled serious financial allegations against Onler, claiming that crores earned from her boxing career faced mismanagement and fraud. She alleged that loans were taken and properties were transferred without her proper consent. Onler, however, has consistently denied all these claims, challenging her to prove the allegations. Close sources indicate that Onler is now seeking a formal apology and damages for the mental and social distress caused by these statements.
