Veteran Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav, known for his impeccable comic timing, found himself overwhelmed during a recent court hearing regarding a long-standing cheque bounce case. Appearing before the Supreme Court, Yadav poured his heart out, stating that while he has spent his life entertaining audiences, his current circumstances have turned him into a living drama.
The Financial Ruin Behind 'Aata Pata Laapata'
During Wednesday's Supreme Court proceedings, Rajpal Yadav presented a demand draft of Rs 1.15 crore towards clearing his debts and requested time until October 13 to deposit the remaining Rs 85 lakh. While speaking before the bench, the actor recounted the massive financial setbacks he faced due to his directorial venture, 'Aata Pata Laapata', which he claimed cost him around Rs 17 crore in losses.
Reflecting on the grueling legal battles, Yadav remarked, "I have done over 200 films and brought smiles to people's faces, but this case has ruined my life. They dragged me through courts and blocked my projects. Now that I have started getting work again, I am fully committed to clearing everyone's dues."
Supreme Court Grants Two Weeks Extension
The bench, comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and other judges, listened to the actor's submissions and granted him a two-week window to arrange the remaining funds. The court also encouraged him to focus on creating good cinema and entertaining people. The legal dispute stems from financial transactions involving M/s Murli Projects, which had previously led to severe strictures from lower judicial bodies.
