Political Turmoil in Bihar: JDU Faces Internal Rebellion Ahead of MLC Elections
The political landscape of Bihar is witnessing intense friction as Janata Dal (United) deals with an internal crisis sparked by Mokama MLA Anant Singh. The ruling party finds itself in a tight spot ahead of the upcoming Bihar Legislative Council elections, following open defiance from the heavyweight legislator against the party's official candidate.
The core of the dispute lies in the Patna Graduates constituency, where Anant Singh has chosen to back Jan Suraaj candidate Anuj Singh instead of supporting the official JDU nominee, sitting MLC Neeraj Kumar. This unexpected political maneuvering has sent ripples through party headquarters, prompting swift intervention from the high command.
Anant Singh's Show of Strength Under Jan Suraaj Banner
Defying party lines, Anant Singh made headlines when he openly participated in the nomination procession of Jan Suraaj candidate Anuj Singh. Sporting a yellow scarf—widely associated with Prashant Kishore's political outfit—the MLA rode atop an open jeep, accompanied by a massive gathering of supporters.
Passing right in front of the JDU state office in Patna, the procession turned into a major show of strength. Speaking to reporters, Anant Singh made no effort to conceal his intentions, declaring absolute support for the rival candidate and vowing to settle old political scores with Neeraj Kumar, citing historical opposition from the JDU leader.
JDU Leadership Steps In: Lalan Singh Tasked with Damage Control
Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, JDU national working president Sanjay Jha addressed the media, confirming that the party leadership is closely monitoring developments. Recognizing that the issue falls within the parliamentary jurisdiction of senior leader and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, the party has officially assigned him the responsibility to mediate and resolve the growing rift.
"The party is fully aware of the ongoing developments between Anant Singh and Neeraj Kumar. Since this matter concerns Munger, which falls under Lalan Singh's domain, he has been entrusted with the task of addressing the differences and finding an amicable solution." — Sanjay Jha, National Working President, JDU
Other senior party figures, including MP Kaushalendra Kumar and state minister Jama Khan, have also condemned the public defiance, emphasizing that party discipline must remain paramount and no individual is bigger than the organization.
Deep-Rooted Rivalry and Electoral Stakes
The animosity between Anant Singh and Neeraj Kumar dates back to the 2015 assembly elections when Singh contested successfully as an independent against the JDU official candidate. With the MLC elections crucial for the ruling NDA alliance, this fresh flare-up poses a significant challenge for party strategists.
As Union Minister Lalan Singh steps in to bridge the divide, political watchers are closely observing whether traditional party discipline can be restored or if this rebellion will reshape regional alignments ahead of the polls.
