The political landscape in Rajasthan has heated up significantly following the official announcement of the panchayat election schedule. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bhajanlal Sharma government, accusing the administration of open high-handedness and blatant misuse of state machinery during the recently concluded municipal elections.
Interacting with media representatives at his residence in Jaipur, the senior Congress leader stated that citizens and opposition workers had to endure bitter experiences during the civic polls. He alleged that the ruling dispensation resorted to intimidation tactics and police raids, which severely undermined the principles of a fair democratic process.
Deepening Resentment in Rural Areas
Gehlot specifically highlighted the growing discontent among rural communities, farmers, and laborers against the current government's policies. He maintained that over the past two and a half years, the opposition has relentlessly fought for public rights on the streets and exposed governance failures.
Furthermore, the former chief minister accused the government of halting crucial welfare initiatives launched during his tenure or altering their names merely for political mileage. This disruption has severely impacted social security schemes meant for vulnerable sections of society.
Outrage Over Remarks on Farmers
Addressing agrarian concerns, Gehlot strongly objected to a remark attributed to Chief Minister Bhajanlal regarding the working days of farmers. He termed the statement insulting to the farming community, adding that rural populations are deeply offended and will register their protest through the ballot box.
The Congress party remains confident that the electorate will reject the ruling party's alleged high-handedness and hand a decisive victory to opposition candidates in the upcoming local body battles.
