Militants Ambush Security Forces
In a grim reminder of the security challenges along India's northeast frontier, an Assam Rifles jawan was martyred and four others sustained serious injuries during a militant ambush in Arunachal Pradesh. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning near the Nampong nullah in the Changlang district, close to the international border with Myanmar.
The 21 Assam Rifles patrol team was conducting routine surveillance operations in a sector where border fencing work is currently underway. Heavily armed suspected insurgents, taking advantage of the dense foliage and difficult terrain, opened indiscriminate fire on the troops, leading to a fierce gunbattle.
Supreme Sacrifice by Havildar Jankhokai Kuki
Forty-two-year-old Havildar Jankhokai Kuki sustained fatal bullet injuries during the initial burst of gunfire and made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Four other personnel were injured and swiftly evacuated to a military medical facility for emergency treatment.
The Directorate General and all ranks of Assam Rifles have expressed profound grief over the martyrdom of Havildar Kuki, saluting his unwavering dedication and courage in safeguarding the nation's territorial integrity.
Massive Search Operations Underway
Security agencies suspect the involvement of the NSCN-K-YA (Yung Aung faction) in the attack, though official confirmation is awaited pending thorough forensic and intelligence verification. In the aftermath of the attack, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and local police have cordoned off the region and launched an intensive combing operation in the dense jungles near the border to track down the fleeing attackers.
