A hidden video recording device discovered aboard an Australian Navy warship has sparked widespread concern, with authorities launching a formal military police investigation into the potential covert recording of female sailors.
Parliamentary Concerns Over Privacy Breach
The alarming issue came to light after independent Senator Jacqui Lambie raised serious questions in parliament regarding the privacy of female service members. Lambie, a former service member, stated that she was approached by personnel concerned about hidden cameras allegedly found in shower areas used by female sailors.
Senator Lambie also expressed strong apprehension that some footage might have been uploaded online prior to the discovery of the devices, demanding transparency on whether service members were recorded without consent.
Strict Investigation Underway
While the claims are yet to be independently verified, the Australian Department of Defense confirmed that the matter has been referred to the joint military police unit. The ship has been kept at port to facilitate a thorough investigation and provide immediate support to the crew.
