To make farming easier and provide all agricultural information on a single platform, the central government has introduced the Bharat Vistar Yojana. This digital initiative frees farmers from running around various government offices and websites for weather updates or market prices.
Data from major agricultural institutions like the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, India Meteorological Department, and National Pest Management has been integrated into this platform. Farmers can now check precise weather forecasts and real-time mandi rates directly from their mobile phones.
Multilingual Support to Overcome Language Barriers
Recognizing India's linguistic diversity, the scheme has been designed to be completely multilingual. While initially available in Hindi and English, it is expanding to 11 major regional languages, enabling farmers across the country to access crucial advice in their native tongues.
Accessible Even Without Expensive Smartphones
Farmers with smartphones can use the app or web portal chatbot, while those with basic feature phones or no internet access can call the toll-free helpline number 155261 to receive free voice-based agricultural advice.
Crop Insurance and WhatsApp Support
In case of natural calamities like unseasonal rain or hailstorms damaging crops, farmers can register claims within 72 hours under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana through the Krishi Rakshak portal, helpline numbers, or WhatsApp chatbots.
