Political tensions in Delhi continue to rise as opposition parties intensify their protests against the Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Questions were raised following the absence of several key leaders, particularly from the Samajwadi Party, from the 'INDIA' bloc lunch held ahead of the protest march.
While leaders like TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav participated in Tuesday's march, no SP member was spotted at Mallikarjun Kharge's luncheon on Wednesday. Sources suggested that the party either received short notice or lacked formal intimation regarding the event.
Congress Responds To Speculations
Addressing the rumors of rifts within the opposition, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh issued a clarification. He stated that all constituents of the INDIA bloc were invited to the lunch, but the decision to organize it was finalized late last night, and information was passed on accordingly. Due to the very short notice, representatives of a few parties could not make it.
Ramesh further criticized certain media outlets for drawing unnecessary conclusions from the incident. He reiterated that all opposition parties remain united against vote theft, SIR, and delimitation, standing shoulder-to-shoulder in their fight.
Mamata Banerjee To Visit Delhi
Meanwhile, opposition parties have chalked out a week-long protest schedule to mount pressure on the poll panel. TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to arrive in Delhi on Thursday. Her visit coincides with the opposition's preparations for a mega-march on October 9, which is expected to amplify their ongoing demonstration.
