The incident involves a woman whose personal photographs were maliciously altered using AI to depict her alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These morphed images were subsequently circulated widely across various social media channels, triggering widespread concern regarding women's safety and dignity in virtual spaces.
Strict Intervention by the Delhi High Court
Taking serious note of the matter, the Delhi High Court has intervened decisively. The court instructed tech giant Meta to ensure the complete removal of the offensive content within a 24-hour window. During the proceedings, the bench emphasized that the issue extends beyond an individual woman's dignity, touching upon the respect and stature of the nation's Prime Minister.
The judiciary made it clear that such malicious acts cannot be tolerated under any circumstances. The court expressed dissatisfaction with the local police and cyber cell, noting that despite an initial FIR being filed, no effective measures were taken to pull down the objectionable content from the internet.
Political Allegations and Upcoming Court Hearings
The controversy deepened with allegations pointing towards members of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), including Saurav Das, Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka, and Ratna Singh. It has been alleged that these individuals utilized the manipulated images during political demonstrations to defame the petitioner.
The High Court has ordered the Delhi Police to submit a detailed status report within a week. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for October 14, setting the stage for stricter scrutiny of the accused individuals and law enforcement agencies.
