The Delhi High Court has delivered a significant verdict by dismissing a batch of 15 petitions that sought independent SIT investigations and the registration of FIRs against several prominent political figures over alleged hate speeches during the February 2020 northeast Delhi riots and the December 2019 Jamia Millia Islamia violence.
A division bench comprising Justice Vivek Chowdhury and Justice Manoj Jain pronounced the order, bringing a major legal closure to petitions that had been pending since the aftermath of the communal clashes. The petitioners had accused leaders of exacerbating tensions through provocative rhetoric during anti-CAA protests.
The dismissed pleas had specifically named leaders such as Anurag Thakur, Kapil Mishra, and others, accusing them of contributing to the violence. The court's decision underscores the judicial scrutiny applied to demands for fresh investigations and criminal proceedings in long-standing sensitive matters.
