New Diesel Limits Imposed at Petrol Pumps: Private Retailers Cap Sales Amid Middle East Crisis

Private fuel retailers have capped diesel sales at their outlets due to supply shortages and soaring crude oil prices from the Middle East crisis. Jio-BP and Nayara Energy have limited daily purchases, while state-run oil companies confirm no such restrictions exist.

New Diesel Limits Imposed at Petrol Pumps: Private Retailers Cap Sales Amid Middle East Crisis

New Restrictions on Diesel Sales at Private Fuel Stations

Vehicle owners who frequently require large quantities of diesel should take note of a significant development in the fuel sector. Private fuel retail companies have implemented strict new regulations regarding diesel sales, establishing specific quotas at their retail outlets across various regions.

Ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and corresponding disruptions in supply chains have driven crude oil prices higher in the international market. Consequently, private fuel retailers have opted to restrict diesel distribution at their stations to manage their inventory and mitigate financial pressures.

Jio-BP and Nayara Energy Set Strict Purchase Limits

Major private fuel operators have rolled out strict rationing measures at their pumps. Jio-BP has capped diesel purchases at 50 liters per customer at several outlets, while restricting total daily sales volume to 6,000 liters per station, down significantly from historical averages.

Similarly, Nayara Energy has introduced purchase restrictions ranging between 70 liters and 200 liters per transaction at its outlets. These limitations pose a practical challenge for commercial operators and bulk purchasers who rely heavily on private fuel networks.

State-Run Oil Companies Maintain Normal Operations

In contrast, public sector oil marketing companies—including Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL), and Bharat Petroleum (BPCL)—have assured consumers that no such restrictions apply to their retail networks.

Since public sector undertakings operate roughly 90 percent of the country's extensive fuel station network, the overall impact on everyday citizens and standard vehicle owners remains minimal. Consumers are advised to rely on state-run outlets if they require unconstrained fuel access.

Potential Impact on Long-Distance Commercial Transport

While urban commuters face minimal disruption, long-distance commercial vehicles operating along remote highways may experience challenges. Many highway and rural corridors feature a higher density of private fuel stations operated by entities like Jio-BP and Nayara Energy compared to state-owned alternatives.

Logistics operators warn that rationing at these specific locations could increase transit times and operational costs for heavy transport vehicles unless alternative fueling solutions are readily accessible along major freight routes.
