EC Holds High-Level Review Meeting on SIR Process
Amid ongoing political debates, the Election Commission of India convened a crucial meeting at Nirvachan Sadan in Delhi. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, led the deliberations. The poll panel clarified that all recent decisions regarding the Special Intensive Revision in Bihar, West Bengal, and other states were taken with absolute consensus.
During the briefing, the Commission announced several administrative updates to make the electoral roll revision smoother and more accessible for ordinary citizens. The focus remains on ensuring no eligible voter is left behind due to technical glitches or mapping errors.
Extended Deadlines for Delhi and Maharashtra
The Commission has granted timeline extensions for filing claims and objections in key regions. In Delhi, the final date for submitting claims has been extended to October 30, 2026, while the disposal of these applications will conclude by November 30, 2026.
Similarly, in Maharashtra, the deadline to submit claims has been pushed to October 12, 2026, with the resolution process set to wrap up by November 10, 2026. These extensions aim to provide adequate time for political parties and local administration.
BLOs to Collect Documents at Doorsteps
To reduce administrative burdens on citizens whose names were flagged due to mapping errors, Booth Level Officers will now visit households directly to collect required documents. These papers will be uploaded to the ECINET portal for final review by electoral registration officers.
Physical visits to official offices for routine hearings have been largely eliminated, with online procedures introduced for exceptional cases. Special help desks are also being set up for underprivileged and homeless populations.
