Major Drop Expected in Gold and Silver Prices Ahead of Festive Season
As the festive season begins across India, the bullion market is witnessing intense activity. Traditionally, occasions like Dhanteras and Diwali see a massive surge in gold and silver purchases. However, recent trends and international reports have brought mixed signals for retail buyers and investors, leaving many wondering about the right time to buy.
According to market analysts, rising US bond yields and global economic uncertainties have pulled precious metal prices down from their record highs. Despite these corrections, retail rates in major Indian cities remain at elevated levels, directly impacting common household budgets. Buyers are closely tracking daily market movements before finalizing their purchases.
HSBC and Bank of America Release Bearish Gold Forecasts
Global financial institutions have updated their long-term outlooks for precious metals. HSBC has revised its average gold price forecasts downward for the upcoming years, suggesting that downward pressure on gold could persist in the near future.
According to Reuters, HSBC lowered its average gold price forecast for 2026 to $4,490 per ounce, translating to roughly Rs 1,48,624 per 10 grams in India. For 2027, the estimate has been trimmed to $4,825 per ounce, or approximately Rs 1,59,724 per 10 grams. Meanwhile, Bank of America has issued an even more aggressive prediction, suggesting that spot gold could dip below $4,000 per ounce during the fourth quarter, potentially testing $3,750 per ounce.
Current Bullion Rates Across Major Retail Brands
In domestic markets, gold rates vary by purity and location. Major jewelry chains including Tanishq, Kalyan Jewellers, Joyalukkas, and Malabar Gold and Diamonds continue to update their daily rates based on international benchmarks and local currency fluctuations. Retail demand remains steady as families prepare for traditional festive celebrations.

What Should Investors and Retail Buyers Do Now?
Financial experts advise retail buyers purchasing for traditional or personal use not to time the market too strictly, as cultural demand often cushions domestic prices. However, purely financial investors are encouraged to adopt a phased buying approach to navigate potential market corrections safely.
