Modi Government Cracks Down on Corruption: Gujarat IAS Officers K Rajesh and Gaurav Dahiya Compulsorily Retired

A Major Administrative Crackdown on Corrupt Officials

In a strong message against corruption and administrative misconduct, the central government has compulsorily retired two senior Gujarat cadre IAS officers. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) took this stern administrative step after a comprehensive review of the entire service records of these officers, who were facing serious allegations.

The officers facing this strict action are K Rajesh, a 2011-batch IAS officer, and Gaurav Dahiya, a 2010-batch IAS officer. Both were already under suspension following severe criminal and departmental investigations against them. This move underscores the government's zero-tolerance policy towards administrative corruption.

The Controversial Tenure of K Rajesh and CBI Investigation

IAS officer K Rajesh had been under suspension since July 2022. During his tenure as the Collector of Surendranagar district, serious allegations of financial irregularities and bribery surfaced against him. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested him after finding substantial evidence of wrongdoing.

According to investigative agencies, Rajesh was accused of granting arms licenses to ineligible individuals and taking bribes for the illegal allotment of government land. Following a detailed investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against him in court, leading to his prolonged detention and legal troubles.

Administrative Action Against Gaurav Dahiya

The second officer impacted by this order, 2010-batch IAS officer Gaurav Dahiya, also faced multiple allegations concerning his personal conduct and administrative duties. Although he was later reinstated and posted as Additional Development Commissioner in Gandhinagar, the shadow of his past controversies remained.

The high-level review committee evaluated Dahiya's entire service history and pending departmental inquiries before concluding that his continuation in service was not in public interest. Consequently, the government invoked rules to retire him prematurely.

Conclusion and Broader Impact

This decisive action highlights the government's commitment to maintaining probity and transparency within the bureaucratic framework. By removing tainted officials, the administration aims to reinforce public trust and set a strong precedent for administrative accountability across the country.
