Weather Update: IMD Issues Heavy Rain and 60 Kmph Storm Alert Across 15 States

Monsoon Withdrawal and Changing Weather Patterns Across India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its latest weather forecast, indicating significant shifts in meteorological conditions across the country. A major portion of northern India has witnessed the complete withdrawal of the southwest monsoon, paving the way for dry northerly winds. This transition has led to a noticeable drop in temperatures during early mornings and late evenings, marking the subtle onset of pleasant weather. However, weather activity remains intense in several other parts of the nation where active monsoonal systems continue to dump heavy showers.

According to weather analysts, an anti-cyclonic circulation persisting over the lower tropospheric levels of north Gujarat and adjoining southwest Rajasthan has accelerated the monsoon's exit. While northern regions are experiencing clearer skies, the southern peninsula, eastern India, and northeastern states remain under the influence of active rain-bearing clouds. Citizens residing in these vulnerable zones have been advised to stay updated with real-time advisories and take precautionary measures against potential lightning strikes and gusty winds.

States Under Heavy Rainfall and Storm Warnings

The meteorological office has placed nearly 15 states under varying degrees of weather warnings, highlighting spells of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Key states slated to experience significant downpours include West Bengal, Sikkim, Kerala, Karnataka, Odisha, and all the northeastern states. Additionally, isolated pockets of Jharkhand, Bihar, and eastern Uttar Pradesh may witness intermittent showers and thunderous clouds. Local administrations in these regions have been put on alert to manage any potential waterlogging or localized disruptions.

Northeastern territories such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to remain lashed by wet spells over the next few days. The persistent atmospheric instability increases the likelihood of lightning and sudden downpours in hilly and low-lying terrains alike. Authorities are closely monitoring river levels and vulnerable slopes to ensure swift emergency response if conditions deteriorate.

High-Speed Winds Expected in Coastal and Northeastern Regions

Strong surface winds are projected to accompany the rainfall, posing potential risks in coastal and elevated areas. IMD reports indicate that wind speeds ranging between 40 to 50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, could sweep across Kerala, Karnataka, and parts of the northeast. Such forceful gusts might cause minor structural damages, uproot vulnerable trees, and disrupt local power distribution networks. Fishermen along the affected coasts have been sternly advised to avoid venturing into rough seas.

Similarly, coastal Odisha and the Gangetic plains of West Bengal are bracing for brisk wind activity that could keep maritime conditions turbulent. Port authorities have raised caution signals for vessels operating in the region. While wind speeds are expected to moderate after a couple of days, residents are urged to exercise caution during outdoor commutes.

Outlook for Delhi-NCR and Northern Plains

In the national capital of Delhi and its surrounding metropolitan areas, weather conditions remain largely benign. Day temperatures have hovered around normal ranges with adequate sunshine dominating the skies. Meteorological models suggest no major weather disruptions for Delhi and the northwest plains in the immediate term, though minor atmospheric fluctuations cannot be ruled out towards the end of the week. Air quality indices continue to hover within moderate parameters.

As the monsoon completes its retreat from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, clearer skies are taking over. While border districts might experience occasional cloud patches, the broader northern belt is transitioning towards cooler autumn conditions. Experts predict a steady decline in temperatures moving further into October, bringing a definitive end to humid summer spells.
