Strong Start for India-A in Unofficial Test
The Australia-A team is currently touring India to play two unofficial Test matches and three unofficial ODI matches. The series kicked off on Tuesday with the first unofficial Test match being played in Puducherry. India-A won the toss and elected to bat first. At stumps on the opening day, India reached a respectable total of 257 for the loss of 5 wickets in 89 overs.
The day witnessed a great battle between bat and ball. While the top order struggled against disciplined Australian bowling, the middle and lower order showed immense resilience to rescue the team from a precarious position.
Kushagra and Sudharsan Lead the Charge
Opening batsman Sai Sudharsan played a steady knock of 57 runs from 103 balls, hitting 3 boundaries. He provided the initial stability required after early setbacks. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Kushagra played a magnificent innings of 82 runs from 160 balls, laced with 10 fours, before retiring hurt due to fatigue.

Several key batsmen failed to make an impact. Captain Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed for just 3 runs, while Sheikh Rashid scored 16. Yash Rathod and Aman Mokhade also departed cheaply, leaving India struggling in the middle sessions.
Kotian and Mulani Stand Firm
Tanush Kotian played a fighting unbeaten knock of 68 runs from 134 balls, featuring 4 fours and a six. He was ably supported by Shams Mulani, who remained unbeaten on 10 runs as India closed the day on 257/5, looking to add more runs on Day 2.
