Political Crisis Deepens in Jammu & Kashmir Assembly
The political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a dramatic turn of events as the debate over statehood takes a complex route inside the legislative assembly. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had originally moved a straightforward resolution urging the central government to restore full statehood to the region. However, this initiative faced an unexpected hurdle from within his own party and allied factions, who have submitted multiple amendments seeking to bring back the contentious Article 370 and 35A.
As soon as the assembly proceedings commenced, several National Conference legislators tabled formal amendments demanding that the resolution must explicitly incorporate the restoration of constitutional guarantees that existed prior to August 5, 2019. This internal dissent has caught the ruling camp off guard, triggering intense debates about political strategy and legislative unity within the administration.

Prominent National Conference MLAs, including Tanvir Sadiq, Javaid Hasan Beg, and several others, have openly challenged the limited scope of the original resolution.
