Karnataka SIR Row: CM DK Shivakumar Sits on Indefinite Protest Outside Election Commission Office

Karnataka Political Tensions Escalate Over Voter List Revision

The political landscape in Karnataka has heated up significantly following massive controversies surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, accompanied by several cabinet ministers, staged an indefinite protest outside the Election Commission of India (ECI) office in Bengaluru, demanding immediate and strict action against alleged electoral fraud.

The Chief Minister made it clear that the state government would not back down until the poll body provides concrete assurances regarding the safety of voter data and transparent investigations into the massive deletion of names from the electoral rolls across various assembly constituencies.

BJP MLA Abhay Patil Admits Mistake, Claims CM

In a major political development, CM Shivakumar revealed that BJP MLA Abhay Patil himself visited election officials and acknowledged procedural discrepancies. According to the Chief Minister, Patil submitted a written request to authorities to remove names that were allegedly added to the voter lists through questionable interventions by party workers.

Shivakumar emphasized that this revelation points toward a wider, systematic conspiracy operating across multiple districts, including Belagavi, Vijayapura, Mysuru, and Bengaluru, affecting the democratic rights of thousands of genuine citizens.

Over One Million Votes Deleted Amid Form-7 Controversy

Official reports indicate that during the SIR process conducted between June and August, the total number of registered voters in Karnataka dropped significantly from 5.54 million to 4.46 million, raising serious questions over the removal of over a million names. The state government has strongly flagged the alleged misuse of Form-7 applications, through which pre-filled objections and deletion requests were systematically submitted.

The Chief Minister has formally submitted a five-point memorandum to the election authorities, demanding thorough booth-level investigations, protection of voter data, and immediate criminal proceedings against individuals found manipulating the electoral database.
