Major Changes in LPG Subsidy and Booking Rules
A significant update is underway for households across the nation regarding liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders. According to the latest directives from the petroleum ministry, biometric Aadhaar authentication has been made compulsory for domestic consumers to continue receiving government subsidies directly into their bank accounts.
This initiative aims to streamline the distribution network and ensure that financial assistance reaches only genuine and eligible households. Consumers who fail to complete this simple verification process within the stipulated timeframe will not face a disruption in their gas supply, but they will certainly lose out on the monetary subsidy benefits.
Impact of Non-Verification on Wallet and Market Rates
Without the mandatory biometric authentication, consumers will be required to purchase refilled gas cylinders at full market price rather than the subsidized rate. This rule is designed to eliminate financial leakages and curb the misuse of welfare schemes.
Authorities have clarified that while delivery will continue smoothly, skipping the verification means paying the complete market value out of pocket. Millions of active consumers have already completed the procedure, but those whose verification is still pending must act proactively to avoid paying extra.
Curbing Dual Connections and Commercial Misuse
One of the primary objectives behind enforcing this rule is to identify and block duplicate, fake, or inactive gas connections registered under the same identity. Over the years, multiple discrepancies in consumer databases have been detected.
Furthermore, the diversion of subsidized domestic cylinders toward commercial establishments such as restaurants, dhabas, and small industries has been a persistent challenge. The strict enforcement of biometric tracking will effectively seal these loopholes, ensuring fair distribution.

How Consumers Can Complete Verification Easily
To ensure maximum convenience, oil marketing companies have provided multiple hassle-free avenues for users to get their authentication completed without visiting crowded offices unnecessarily.
- At the Time of Delivery: Consumers can provide their fingerprint on the delivery personnel's handheld digital device when the cylinder arrives at their doorstep.
- Visit Gas Agency: Customers can walk into their respective distributor showrooms (Indane, Bharat Gas, or HP Gas) to complete the biometric check.
- Using Mobile Applications: Official smartphone applications like IndianOil ONE, HelloBPCL, or HP PAY allow users to initiate and complete verification procedures digitally.
Updated Booking Numbers and Delivery Code System
In addition to biometric rules, oil companies have rolled out updated interactive voice response (IVR) and WhatsApp booking numbers. Consumers must ensure they use only their registered mobile numbers for placing refill orders.
To further enhance security, the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system remains strictly operational. A unique OTP-like code is sent to the consumer's registered mobile number upon booking, which must be shared with the delivery agent to successfully complete the handover of the cylinder.
