A Major Boost For Farmers As Government Revises Rabi MSP
In a significant decision aimed at supporting the agricultural community, the central government has approved an upward revision in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for several key rabi crops. Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the cabinet meeting focused heavily on ensuring better remuneration for farmers ahead of the upcoming sowing season. This move is expected to provide financial stability and encourage higher production across the country.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) cleared the proposal for the 2027-28 rabi marketing season. The basket of crops with enhanced support prices includes wheat, barley, gram, lentil, rapeseed-mustard, and safflower. Agricultural experts believe these revised rates will act as a major cushion against market volatility and production costs.
Wheat MSP Raised to Rs 2,610 Per Quintal
Addressing the core staple crop, the government has hiked the MSP for wheat by Rs 25 per quintal, bringing the new rate to Rs 2,610 per quintal compared to Rs 2,585 in the previous season. Officials highlighted that the production cost of wheat stands significantly lower, ensuring a robust margin of profit for growers. The government has also lined up extensive procurement plans to ensure that maximum farmers benefit directly from these announced rates.
Enhanced Support Prices For Oilseeds And Pulses
Along with wheat, the administration has introduced substantial hikes for oilseeds and pulses to bridge domestic demand-supply gaps. The MSP for mustard has been raised to Rs 6,613 per quintal, while safflower has seen a major jump to Rs 7,215 per quintal. In the pulse category, gram and lentil prices have also been revised upwards, reinforcing the government's commitment to diversified and profitable farming.
