New Delhi: In a significant development for the fuel retail sector, Nayara Energy, India's largest private fuel retailer, has hiked petrol prices by Rs 5 per litre and diesel by Rs 3 per litre with immediate effect. News agency PTI shared a video report on this update via X (formerly Twitter), which has since sparked widespread discussion among netizens and industry experts alike.
According to the details, the price revision is aimed at narrowing the gap between rising international crude oil costs and domestic retail pricing. The move by the private refiner comes amid fluctuating global energy markets, putting additional pressure on private fuel stations.
The announcement has drawn mixed reactions on social media, with vehicle owners and regular commuters expressing concern over the sudden pinch to their monthly budgets. Economic observers, however, note that private retailers are often quick to adjust prices in line with global crude trends to protect operational margins.
As of now, major public sector oil marketing companies have not announced a similar hike, keeping retail rates steady for state-run outlets. Industry watchers continue to monitor whether other fuel suppliers will follow suit.
