A Major Leap Toward Green Fuel: 100% Ethanol Car Coming Soon
In a significant push toward green energy and reducing dependence on expensive crude oil imports, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has made a landmark announcement. Speaking at an event in Delhi, Gadkari revealed that the automotive sector is gearing up for a massive transformation as a 100% ethanol-powered car is set to hit the market next month.
Addressing past concerns regarding E20 blended fuel and vehicle engine performance, the Minister clarified that no technical complaints have surfaced from across the country regarding the use of these fuels. The upcoming vehicle, manufactured by Toyota, will run entirely on ethanol and will simultaneously generate about 60% of its own electricity while on the move.
Relief for Common Citizens: Fuel Costs at Rs 25 Per Liter Equivalent
Soaring fuel prices have long burdened the common man's pocket. However, alternative green fuels promise substantial financial relief. Minister Gadkari explained that compared to traditional petrol prices, utilizing 100% ethanol in these advanced flex-fuel vehicles will bring down the running cost of the vehicle to approximately Rs 25 per liter equivalent.
This development will not only ease the financial burden on middle-class commuters and commercial transport operators but will also significantly curb vehicular pollution, paving the way for a cleaner and greener environment.

The push for ethanol production is directly benefiting rural agrarian communities. By supplying maize and sugarcane crops to biofuel manufacturing plants, farmers have witnessed a remarkable surge in their incomes. Gadkari highlighted that policies promoting maize-based ethanol production have already funneled around Rs 45,000 crores directly to farmers in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Despite potential resistance from traditional fossil fuel lobbies representing massive business turnovers, the government remains steadfast in prioritizing farmers' financial welfare and national energy security.
Creating Millions of Jobs Through Digital Platforms and Bike Taxis
Alongside energy reforms, the transport sector is playing a pivotal role in employment generation. The rapid expansion of bike-taxis for short-distance travel offers a convenient and affordable commute for the public while creating livelihood opportunities for millions of youths.
Gadkari urged state transport ministers to support platforms that empower grassroots workers. By enabling common vehicle owners to operate as taxicab drivers through digital platforms, India can potentially generate up to 10 million jobs without requiring heavy capital investments.
