The primary objective of this ambitious scheme is to promote clean and green energy by installing solar power plants on the roofs of residential consumers and bringing down electricity expenses to nearly zero.
Citizens are showing immense enthusiasm for this scheme across various states. Recently, state electricity departments organized special programs to disburse additional financial assistance directly into the bank accounts of selected beneficiaries via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). This initiative not only supports environmental conservation but also significantly reduces the economic burden on middle-class families.
Understanding The Subsidy Structure
The financial assistance provided under this scheme depends on the capacity of the rooftop solar system installed. The central and state governments jointly offer attractive subsidies to make the adoption of solar energy affordable for everyone.
For a 1 kW solar panel, consumers receive a central subsidy of Rs 30,000 and an additional state assistance of Rs 10,000, bringing the total subsidy to Rs 40,000. For a 2 kW system, the total assistance goes up to Rs 80,000, combining central and state funds.
Maximum Benefits On 3 kW Plants
Families opting for a 3 kW or higher capacity solar system receive the maximum financial benefit under this scheme. The central government provides a subsidy of up to Rs 78,000, while the state government adds another Rs 20,000, making the total financial grant up to Rs 98,000 directly credited to the consumer.

Eligibility Criteria And Application Process
