Influencer Tracked Down in Katraj Area
According to reports, the influencer has been identified as Mahesh Mote. It is alleged that Mote made the video targeting the MNS chief roughly 15 days prior to the incident. Fearing repercussions, Mote reportedly left Pune and spent 15 to 20 days in Kerala. However, upon his return to Pune, MNS workers received a tip-off about his presence in the Katraj area.
Local MNS functionaries, including Hadapsar assembly constituency sub-divisional president Shubham Jagdale, acted swiftly upon receiving the information. They tracked Mote down at a park in Katraj, intercepted him, and forcefully brought him to the MNS public relations office to face their brand of justice.
Black Ink, Chappals, and Forced Apology
Once inside the MNS office, Mote was subjected to humiliation, a video of which subsequently went viral on social media. Workers smeared black ink all over his face, forced him to prostrate before a picture of Raj Thackeray, and made him do sit-ups with a slipper placed on his head.
The viral video clearly shows a terrified and weeping Mahesh Mote joining his hands and issuing an unconditional apology to Raj Thackeray, the MNS party, and its officials. He is heard begging for forgiveness and promising never to repeat such a mistake. The video has reignited debates over political vigilantism and the erosion of the rule of law.
MNS Leader Defends the Action as 'Party Style'
Defending the actions of his party workers, MNS leader Shubham Jagdale openly acknowledged the incident in front of the media. Instead of viewing it as a criminal act, he termed it the party's signature style of response. Jagdale used the term 'Mahaprasad' to describe the punishment handed out to Mote.
Jagdale warned that anyone making derogatory remarks against Raj Thackeray would face similar consequences in the future. Such statements from political functionaries underscore a culture of intimidation that is often normalized within certain political cadres.
