Rahul Gandhi Urges MP CM Mohan Yadav to Address Teacher Vacancies and Increase Posts
The ongoing agitation by teacher eligibility test aspirants in Madhya Pradesh has gained significant political traction after Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi intervened in the matter. Gandhi wrote a detailed letter to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, highlighting the severe shortage of teaching staff in state-run government schools and urging immediate administrative action to resolve the grievances of job seekers.
During his recent visit to Indore, several qualified candidates met with Gandhi to explain their plight. Despite securing high scores in the eligibility examinations, thousands of aspirants remain unemployed due to a restricted number of vacancies notified by the government. Taking cognizance of their appeals, the senior leader emphasized the urgent need to expand the scope of the recruitment drive to secure the future of students and provide stable employment to youth.
Severe Staff Shortage in Government Schools Impacts Education Quality
In his communication, Gandhi pointed out that over one lakh teaching positions are currently lying vacant across government schools in Madhya Pradesh. This massive deficit is directly compromising the quality of education delivered to children, particularly in rural and semi-urban regions where alternative learning resources are scarce.
While the Teacher Recruitment 2025 notifications account for only 13,089 posts for Class 3 and 10,800 posts for Class 2, aspirants argue that these numbers are woefully inadequate compared to the actual vacancies. Expanding the intake capacity would not only fulfill institutional requirements but also accommodate guest teachers who have served dedicatedly for years and are now nearing their maximum age limits.
Call for Withdrawing Notices Issued to Protesting Aspirants
Addressing the administrative heavy-handedness against peaceful protesters, Gandhi criticized the state government for issuing legal and administrative notices to candidates demanding their rights. He asserted that peaceful protest is a democratic right and urged the Chief Minister to quash these notices immediately while initiating direct dialogue with representatives of the protesting candidates.
"With more than one lakh vacant teaching posts in government schools, the government must increase recruitment numbers and engage in constructive dialogue with aspirants rather than intimidating them with notices." — Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha
The state government now faces mounting pressure from both the opposition and grassroots aspirants to expedite counseling phases, increase post allocations, and address infrastructural bottlenecks within the public education ecosystem of Madhya Pradesh.
