Supreme Court Takes Serious Note of Delhi-NCR Crimes
The safety of women in the national capital region has come under intense judicial scrutiny once again. The Supreme Court has expressed deep anguish over recent brutal crimes, terming them a massive failure of the administrative machinery and law enforcement agencies.
The apex court pulled up authorities for failing to provide basic public safety and a secure environment for citizens at the grassroots level. The bench specifically pointed out how administrative apathy and lack of vigilance continue to put citizens at high risk in everyday public spaces.
Recalling the 2012 Nirbhaya Tragedy
Presided over by Justice JB Pardiwala, the Supreme Court bench made sharp remarks noting that the nature of these recent crimes compels one to recall the painful memories of the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case. The court emphasized that despite stringent legal amendments enacted over the years, the ground reality regarding women's safety remains deeply disturbing.
The bench observed that mere expressions of solidarity or superficial outrage are not enough anymore. Accountability must be fixed on the agencies and officials whose negligence leads to such horrific incidents.

Lack of Security in Public Spaces
The top court strongly criticized the deteriorating security conditions in public transport, parks, and other common areas. Poor lighting, lack of CCTV surveillance, and administrative neglect cannot be allowed to turn public utility spaces into high-risk zones for women, the court asserted.
Ensuring a fearless environment and the right to live with dignity is a fundamental right of every citizen, and safeguarding it remains the foremost duty of the administration.
