Tata Motors Prepares for a Major Comeback with Tata Aeris
Tata Motors is once again set to shake up the Indian compact sedan market as it prepares to introduce a facelifted version of its popular Tigor sedan under a brand-new moniker, 'Tata Aeris'. The company has officially released a teaser video, offering the first glimpse of this upcoming vehicle. Automotive experts believe this new sedan will bring a fresh wave of competition to the segment, going head-to-head against established rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
The company has retained the core platform and mechanical underpinnings of the Tigor, but has completely revamped the design, cabin layout, and feature list. This strategic shift aims to capture the attention of modern buyers looking for style, comfort, and advanced technology on a budget.
Striking Exterior and Bold Design Updates
The most prominent changes on the Tata Aeris are visible on its exterior. Having already filed a design patent for this facelift, Tata has given the front fascia a much sharper and aggressive look. It features slimmer headlamps, integrated LED daytime running lights (DRLs), and a glossy black element connecting the two headlamps, giving the car a wider and more muscular stance.
The front bumper has also been redesigned with sharper lines, a wider lower air intake, and revised fog lamp housings. While the side profile and door structure largely mirror the Tigor to maintain structural integrity and cabin space, the addition of newly designed alloy wheels gives the car a fresh and modern road presence.
A Premium Cabin Loaded with Modern Tech
Inside, the Tata Aeris promises a more upmarket experience compared to its predecessor. Inspired by recent updates across Tata's lineup, the cabin boasts a completely new dashboard layout, a digital instrument cluster, and a large 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity.
Attention to detail in material quality, improved seat comfort, automatic climate control, and rear AC vents ensure that passengers travel in utmost comfort. Safety remains a core priority, with multiple standard safety features expected to be part of the package.
Performance, Engine Options, and CNG Variant
Under the hood, the Tata Aeris will continue to draw power from the reliable 1.2-litre naturally aspirated 3-cylinder petrol engine, producing 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. Transmission duties will be handled by a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox. Rumors suggest that the AMT variants might even feature paddle shifters for a more engaging driving experience.
To cater to fuel-conscious buyers, a factory-fitted CNG variant will also be introduced in the lineup, likely utilizing Tata's twin-cylinder technology to preserve boot space while offering impressive mileage.
