The stock market is bracing for significant activity in shares of Vedanta Power Limited following a major business update released by the company. As investors scan for profitable opportunities, the latest operational metrics from the energy firm have put its stock firmly in the spotlight, highlighting robust growth in electricity generation and sales across key thermal plants.
Strong Growth in Quarterly Electricity Sales
According to the company's official disclosures, Vedanta Power recorded a robust 26 percent increase in total electricity sales, touching 559.3 करोड़ units during the second quarter of the current fiscal year. In comparison, the company had sold 443.3 करोड़ units during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. This impressive growth underscores the rising demand for power and the company's enhanced capability to meet grid requirements efficiently.
Furthermore, the cumulative power sales for the first half of the current fiscal year witnessed a strong 32 percent surge, reaching 1,081.7 करोड़ units. Industry experts note that improved plant efficiencies and higher operational availability have played a pivotal role in driving these numbers upward, sparking renewed optimism among equity investors.
Key Contributions from Meenakshi Energy and Jharsuguda Plants
The stellar jump in sales was primarily anchored by exceptional performances from Meenakshi Energy and the Jharsuguda thermal power facility. Meenakshi Energy reported a staggering 111 percent year-on-year growth in electricity sales during the second quarter, hitting 147 करोड़ units. This robust performance reflects the successful commercial operation of its expanded 1,000 MW capacity.
Simultaneously, the Jharsuguda plant witnessed a massive 186 percent increase in quarterly sales, reaching 87.3 करोड़ units. The Plant Availability Factor (PAF) for the facility dramatically improved to 98 percent from just 43 percent in the previous year, ensuring steady production and uninterrupted supply to the market.
Financial Outlook and Market Implications
While operational metrics show tremendous promise, financial statements indicate that Vedanta Power posted a net loss of 449 करोड़ rupees for the April-June quarter of FY 2026-27, compared to a net profit of 75 करोड़ rupees in the same quarter last year. However, total income rose to 1,844 करोड़ rupees from 1,734 करोड़ rupees.
Trading around the 32.87 rupee level, market participants anticipate heightened movement in the stock as trading resumes. Long-term investors are advised to weigh the operational strengths against financial figures before making investment decisions.
