Fake journalists running extortion racket exposed in Chhindwara
In a shocking incident from Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district, the Bichhua police have busted a gang of fake journalists who were blackmailing common citizens. The accused posed as reporters of various media outlets and extorted huge sums of money by threatening to make private videos viral and lodge false complaints against them.
According to the police, the accused targeted people who were vulnerable or involved in minor disputes. They used fake identity cards to intimidate victims and create a false sense of fear. The racket came to light when some victims finally gathered the courage to approach the local police station and file a formal complaint.
Misuse of administrative systems and false complaints
The gang's modus operandi included threatening victims with fake complaints on the CM Helpline 181 and other senior administrative offices. By doing so, they put immense psychological pressure on the victims, forcing them to pay extortion money to save their social reputation.
Police have arrested two individuals involved in the crime, while a third accused is currently absconding. Raids are being conducted to nab the remaining suspect. Authorities have reiterated that anyone misusing the noble profession of journalism for criminal activities will face strict legal consequences.
