Delhi Traffic Police Cracks Down on Traffic Violations
Driving on the roads of the national capital is set to become much more disciplined as the Delhi Traffic Police intensifies its crackdown against traffic rule violators. Over the past week, a special enforcement drive conducted across the central and northern ranges resulted in strict legal action and over 13,000 challans issued to reckless drivers. Officials stated that this drive was crucial to ensuring smooth traffic flow and road safety in the metropolis.
With the objective of curbing rising road accidents and daily traffic congestion, the traffic police have adopted a zero-tolerance policy. Specific areas prone to frequent rule violations and illegal parking that severely inconveniences commuters were targeted during this operation.
Central Range Targets Illegal Parking and Congestion
The Central Range of the Delhi Traffic Police launched a week-long special enforcement drive from September 14 to September 20. During this period, police teams registered a total of 5,644 challans for various traffic violations. The initiative aimed to clear roads of illegal parking and other obstructions to facilitate smooth vehicle movement.
To combat illegal parking which often leads to severe traffic jams and obstructs emergency services like ambulances, police clamped down heavily on errant vehicles. A total of 1,048 vehicles parked improperly and blocking traffic were clamped during this special drive.
Northern Range Issues Thousands of Challans in Two Days
Following the central range, the Northern Range of the Delhi Traffic Police also initiated an intensive inspection campaign, taking action in 7,534 traffic violation cases within just two days on Friday and Saturday.
Police officials noted that the campaign specifically targeted offenses that pose immediate threats to public safety. Driving without a helmet accounted for 913 cases, while wrong-side driving recorded 391 challans. Furthermore, authorities caught 329 cases of no-entry violations, 166 cases of dangerous driving, and 89 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol.
