Chandigarh/Ground Bureau — The weather in Haryana has taken a sudden turn this October, bringing both a change in climate and new challenges for farmers. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rain in nine districts of the state, with Panchkula witnessing hailstorms and Yamunanagar, Panipat, and Sonipat experiencing rainfall. This active western disturbance has brought down temperatures, introducing an early onset of mild winter chills across the region.
However, this untimely rain has deeply worried farmers as paddy crops kept in open mandis have gotten soaked. In places like Yamunanagar, where procurement was ongoing, the lack of adequate covered sheds left harvested crops exposed to the elements. Farmers fear that excess moisture will reduce the quality of their grain and lead to financial losses. While the administration has urged the use of tarpaulins, ground reports show that arrangements fell short in several areas, triggering frustration among the farming community.
