Trains are widely regarded as the safest and most convenient medium for long and medium-distance travel. However, a little carelessness during this journey can prove extremely costly for passengers. Recently, an alarming incident has once again exposed the modus operandi of active criminals at railway stations and inside trains.
How the Shrewd Robbery Began During Train Journey
This entire case involves an ordinary commuter and e-rickshaw driver, Satyendra Kumar, a native of Palamu district in Jharkhand. He needed to travel to Anugraha Narayan Road for some urgent work and reached Cantt Railway Station. Amidst the heavy crowd at the station, he went to platform number seven, where the Asansol Passenger train was standing. Satyendra boarded the train and took his seat, little knowing that this journey would turn into a nightmare.
A shrewd criminal was already present inside the train compartment, looking for an opportunity. This trickster skillfully started interacting with Satyendra. Criminals often take advantage of human nature, as passengers frequently start conversations to pass the time during long journeys. The conversation progressed, and the stranger casually offered tea to Satyendra. Unaware of the hidden danger behind the friendly gesture, Satyendra accepted the tea.
Drugged Tea Mixed, Valuables Vanished in Minutes
The criminal had pre-planned and mixed a dangerous intoxicant into the tea. As soon as Satyendra consumed the drugged tea, its effect began within minutes, causing him to lose consciousness. Once a person loses their senses, criminals execute their malicious plans. Taking advantage of the situation, the cunning poisoner searched Satyendra's pockets.
Five thousand rupees in cash kept for travel and his general ticket were smoothly stolen by the thief. The criminal then fled from the spot. Other passengers inside the train remained unaware of the incident, as such criminals are experts in executing operations smoothly and slipping away unnoticed.
Awakening in the Hospital and Realization of the Crime
Following this harrowing ordeal, when victim Satyendra Kumar regained consciousness, he found himself on a hospital bed. When he opened his eyes at Koderma Sadar Hospital in Jharkhand, he was utterly shocked. He could not figure out how he reached Jharkhand from Cantt station or what had happened to him. Doctors and police personnel at the hospital informed him that he had been brought to the railway premises in an unconscious state.
When Satyendra checked his pockets, the cash and ticket were missing. That was when he realized that the tea offered by the stranger was not ordinary, but part of a trap set by poisoners. The victim remains in shock after losing his hard-earned money.

From Zero FIR to Cantt GRP Transfer
Taking the gravity of the incident seriously, Koderma Railway Police promptly registered a zero FIR based on the victim's statement. Since the incident occurred inside a train stationed at Varanasi's Cantt Railway Station, the case was transferred to Cantt GRP (Government Railway Police) for further legal action. Cantt GRP is now thoroughly investigating the matter.
CCTV footage around the railway station is being scanned to identify the poisoner. Railway police state that such gangs become more active during festive seasons or holidays, targeting vulnerable passengers. Police claim they will soon track down the remaining members of the gang.
