In a major welfare and nutrition-focused initiative, the Tamil Nadu government is preparing to introduce chicken biryani once a week for students in government schools. State School Education Minister Raj Mohan revealed that this unique initiative is the vision of Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, aimed at boosting the health and nutritional intake of young students across the state.

A Vision for Better Nutrition

Minister Raj Mohan explained that the idea stems from ensuring that underprivileged children studying in government-run institutions get access to high-quality, protein-rich meals. Drawing a practical comparison, the minister pointed out that inmates in Puzhal prison receive chicken biryani as part of their diet, and argued that school children deserve nothing less when it comes to nutritious food.

Pilot Project Before Full Implementation

To ensure food safety and impeccable hygiene standards, the government will not roll out the scheme immediately. Instead, a pilot project will be conducted first to test logistics, preparation methods, cleanliness standards, and the distribution process to schools. Once the pilot proves successful, a final decision will be made on expanding it across the entire state.

The government has also assured that vegetarian options will remain fully available for students who prefer plant-based meals, ensuring complete freedom of choice for everyone involved.
