Indian Railways' ambitious semi-high-speed train, the Vande Bharat Express, is undergoing significant technological and structural expansion. During recent high-speed trial runs, the indigenous train successfully touched a speed of 180 kilometers per hour, paving the way for network expansions and infrastructural upgrades.
High-Speed Trials and Performance
Recent reports indicate that the Vande Bharat train achieved a peak speed of 180 kmph during rigorous testing phases. While commercial operations currently run between 130 and 160 kmph, these trials are crucial for future high-speed corridors and track upgrades across the nation.
New Route Proposals in South India
To enhance regional connectivity, railway authorities have proposed a new Vande Bharat service connecting Shivamogga in Karnataka to Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. This route aims to streamline religious and commercial travel between the two southern states, significantly reducing travel time.
Modifications in Executive Class Seating
Railway engineers have proposed removing the rotating seats in Vande Bharat Executive Class (EC) coaches. Based on maintenance feedback and mechanical wear-and-tear assessments, this modification is currently under consideration to improve passenger comfort and reduce maintenance overheads.
Aesthetic Inspiration
Addressing the design aesthetics, railway officials confirmed that the iconic saffron and grey color scheme of the newer Vande Bharat rakes draws direct inspiration from the Indian national flag, blending modern engineering with national identity.
