Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Indian athletes who participated in the Asian Games 2026 at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. During the interaction, he showered praise on the athletes for their stellar performances and congratulated them on making the entire nation proud.
In his address, PM Modi specifically highlighted the achievements of athletes aged 15 to 17, noting that age is no barrier to success. He pointed out that starting young provides an added advantage in sports, underscoring the government's ongoing initiatives to identify and nurture grassroots talent across the country.
Focus on Early Talent Identification and Grassroots Training
The Prime Minister stated that several members of Team India at the recent Asian Games were just 15 to 17 years old, capturing the hearts of millions with their grit. He elaborated that structured talent hunts are reaching remote villages to spot talented children between the ages of 5 and 15, providing them with platforms like Khelo India to build a robust foundation for future international competitions.
Daughters of India Shine Bright
Lauding the phenomenal success of women athletes, PM Modi noted that out of India's total medal tally, 38 medals—including 11 golds—were won by women. He also recalled historical milestones such as the women's hockey team securing gold after a long wait of 44 years, alongside exceptional victories in emerging disciplines.
Looking Ahead to Global Sporting Dreams
Encouraging the athletes to maintain their rigorous preparation for upcoming global events like the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the 2030 Commonwealth Games, PM Modi reiterated India's ultimate aspiration to host the Olympic Games in 2036, urging the sporting contingent to keep raising the Tricolour high.
