A shocking incident from a railway station has highlighted the extreme measures some commuters take to evade penalties. During a surprise magistrate ticket-checking drive on a passenger train heading towards Lucknow, chaos erupted as ticketless travelers scrambled to escape authorities, putting their lives in grave danger.
Jumping From Moving Trains and Hiding in Restrooms
As railway officials and ticket examiners (TTEs) boarded the coaches, fear gripped passengers traveling without valid tickets. In a desperate bid to avoid heavy fines, several individuals jumped off the slow-moving train, resulting in minor injuries for some. Meanwhile, other passengers locked themselves inside the train toilets in an attempt to outsmart the checking crew.
However, the alert inspection team thoroughly combed the compartments, unlocked the restrooms, and pulled out those hiding inside. Railway officials strongly condemned this reckless behavior, emphasizing that saving a small amount of money is never worth risking one's life.
Heavy Fines and Legal Action
During this intensive anti-evasion drive, a total of 371 ticketless travelers were apprehended. The railway team collected Rs 2,86,580 in fines from the violators. Additionally, 36 severe cases of rule violations were presented before the ACJRM court for further legal proceedings.
Senior railway authorities have reiterated that such surprise checking campaigns will continue rigorously to curb ticketless travel. The clear message from the administration is that while fines can be paid, losing a life due to sheer recklessness is irreversible.
