A Strong Beginning to the Festive Season in Auto Sector
The Indian automotive industry has witnessed a remarkably positive turnaround as vehicle manufacturers report robust sales figures for September. With the festive season approaching, consumer demand for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles has surged significantly, indicating a healthy revival in market sentiment.
Major car manufacturers, including market leaders, have credited this growth to a combination of rising urban aspirations, strong rural demand, and consumer preference for modern utility vehicles. Industry experts believe this positive momentum is likely to sustain through the upcoming festival months.
Maruti Suzuki Crosses 2.36 Lakh Units in Total Sales
Maruti Suzuki India Limited delivered an impressive performance in September, crossing the milestone of 2.36 lakh total vehicle sales. This robust figure includes both domestic deliveries and exports to international markets.
In the domestic market, the company retailed 1,91,794 units, marking a substantial year-on-year growth of nearly 30 percent compared to the previous year. The phenomenal demand for passenger vehicles across mini, compact, and mid-size segments underscores the enduring popularity of the brand among Indian households.
Surge in SUV and Utility Vehicle Segment
The primary growth engine for passenger vehicle sales has been the utility vehicle segment, which registered an astounding 62 percent growth. The company sold 78,911 utility vehicles during the month, driven by strong consumer preference for models like Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, and Fronx.
Indian consumers are increasingly gravitating toward high-riding SUVs and spacious multi-purpose vehicles, prompting automakers to continuously expand their SUV portfolios to cater to this evolving market dynamic.
Mahindra Scores Big in Commercial Vehicle Segment
On the commercial vehicle front, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited posted remarkable numbers, achieving a 53 percent year-on-year growth in trucks and buses weighing over 3.5 tons. The cargo and passenger carrier segments both contributed significantly to this upward trajectory.
Industry leaders attribute this commercial growth to expanding infrastructure projects, robust logistics activity, and early festival-season fleet upgrades by transport operators.
