Tata Motors Records Historic Growth in Indian Automotive Market

The Indian automotive landscape is witnessing a massive transformation, and homegrown automaker Tata Motors is leading the charge with remarkable sales figures. The company wrapped up September 2026 with phenomenal performance metrics, shattering previous records and setting a new benchmark in the domestic passenger vehicle segment.

According to the latest data, Tata Motors retailed a total of 68,810 vehicles in the domestic market during September, marking a solid 15.32 percent year-on-year growth compared to the same month last year. Month-on-month figures also displayed positive momentum, growing by 5.45 percent compared to August 2026.

First Time Crossing the Two-Lakh Milestone in a Single Quarter

The stellar performance throughout the quarter translated into a historic milestone for the company. Combining domestic sales and export numbers, Tata Motors surpassed the 2-lakh sales mark in a single quarter for the first time, recording a total of 2,01,723 units sold between July and September.

This represents an impressive 40 percent surge compared to the previous year's quarterly numbers, reflecting the growing consumer trust in Indian engineering, safety, and modern design philosophies.

Tata Punch Emerges as India's Favorite SUV

At the heart of this phenomenal sales journey is the Tata Punch, which secured its position as the highest-selling SUV in the country during this quarter. Shailesh Chandra, MD and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, highlighted that the relentless demand for versatile SUVs and smart powertrain options has significantly elevated the brand's market standing.

Electric and CNG Vehicles Account for 51 Percent of Total Sales

Sustainable mobility has become a cornerstone of Tata's success story. During the July-September quarter, electric and CNG vehicles together accounted for more than 51 percent of the total sales volume. In September alone, the company sold 15,384 electric vehicles, registering a massive 67 percent year-on-year jump in the EV segment.
