WhatsApp honeytrap leads to extortion in East Delhi
A 28-year-old man fell victim to an elaborate extortion racket in east Delhi's Anand Vihar area after being lured to a restaurant by a woman he met on WhatsApp. Police acted swiftly upon receiving the complaint and arrested two employees of the restaurant involved in assaulting and extorting the victim.
How the trap was set at Karkardooma
The complainant, Ramkrishan, stated that an unknown woman contacted him via WhatsApp and asked to meet near Karkardooma metro station. She then took him to Keasar Fine Dining in Anand Vihar. Once inside, the staff allegedly presented him with an inflated bill of around Rs 21,000 and began intimidating him when he hesitated to pay.
Assault and forced ATM withdrawal
The accused not only threatened the victim but also assaulted him. Ramkrishan paid Rs 8,000 in cash and Rs 6,000 via UPI. Furthermore, the accused took his ATM card and PIN, withdrawing an additional Rs 11,000, bringing the total extorted amount to Rs 25,000.
Police arrest restaurant employees
Anand Vihar police station registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS. Using CCTV footage and the complainant's identification, police arrested Mohammad Arshadullah Alam and Aman Gujja, both working at the restaurant as an organizer and a bouncer respectively. The female suspect remains at large while police verify mobile records.
