ISLAMABAD/LAHORE — A tragic fraud involving fake admission promises to Harvard University has claimed the life of a bright physics gold medalist student in Pakistan's Punjab province. The incident has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about educational scams targeting ambitious youth and their families. According to police reports, the fraudsters duped the victim and her family of 9.3 million rupees under the pretext of securing her admission abroad.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim's family was not financially well-off and had to sell their ancestral land and take high-interest loans to arrange the massive sum demanded by the agents. Once the money was paid, the agents cut off all communication, and the victim discovered that the admission letters were entirely fabricated. Overwhelmed by the sudden financial ruin and shattered dreams, the young scholar tragically took her own life, leaving her family devastated.
