Bollywood actor Imran Khan, nephew of superstar Aamir Khan, has found himself in legal trouble after Mumbai Police issued him a notice to leave India by October 28. The action follows his participation in a political protest held at Mumbai's August Kranti Maidan.
Details of the Incident and Legal Action
Imran Khan had participated in a protest held on October 10 at August Kranti Maidan, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Following the protest, Mumbai Police registered an FIR against over 400 individuals and briefly detained Imran Khan.
According to police sources, the action was taken under the relevant provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act. Since Imran Khan holds American citizenship—having been born in Wisconsin, USA—and possesses an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card rather than full Indian citizenship, he is legally restricted from participating in domestic political activities and protests in India.
Political Backlash and Reactions
The controversy gained momentum after senior BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya raised objections and lodged a formal police complaint against Khan. Somaiya argued that OCI cardholders are barred from engaging in domestic political protests.

Prior to his detention, Khan defended his presence at the site, stating he was there simply as a resident concerned about freedom of movement and expression. It remains to be seen whether Khan will comply with the departure notice or if the legal battle will take a different turn.
