Bollywood actor Kunal Kemmu has established a strong identity not just as a versatile actor but also as a director. However, acting was never part of his childhood ambitions. In a recent interview, he shared fascinating stories ranging from his early days in Kashmir to becoming a recognized face in Indian cinema.
Fear of the Camera and Accidental Entry
Recalling his childhood, Kunal shared that he is an "accidental actor." At the age of 6 or 7, he had no ambition to act, despite seeing his parents work on sets like the popular show 'Gul Gulshan Gulfam'. He admitted that he was initially afraid of facing the camera. However, destiny intervened when the makers approached his family for another project, eventually leading him to land a role in Aamir Khan's 'Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke'.
The film gave him immense recognition as a child star, followed by critically acclaimed performances in movies like 'Zakhm'. After taking a five-year academic break to complete his graduation, he continued doing theater. He officially made his debut as a leading man with 'Kalyug' and later starred in hits like 'Go Goa Gone', 'Golmaal 3', and 'Malang'.
Witnessing a Blast in Kashmir
Kunal spent his early childhood in Srinagar during a tense political climate. Though he was too young to fully comprehend the gravity of the situation, certain memories remained etched in his mind forever. He recounted a terrifying incident when a sudden, powerful blast threw him across the room while playing with his cousin. He described the eerie silence, smoke, shattering glass, and darkness as something straight out of a movie.
Due to the escalating unrest and stone-pelting incidents in the valley, his family eventually relocated to Mumbai, marking a complete shift in his life's trajectory.
