Video: From Painting Posters to Stardom, Tracing the Inspiring Journey of Veteran Actor Nana Patekar

Legendary actor Nana Patekar is no longer with us. Breathing his last on October 8th, his passing away has left a massive void in the film industry. Spanning nearly five decades, Nana carved out a legendary career without any godfather in the industry. Starting with minor and supporting roles, he eventually cemented his status as one of the most revered powerhouse performers in Indian cinema.

Born into a Maharashtrian family, Nana's early life was marked by severe financial hardships. After his father suffered massive setbacks and betrayal in his textile painting business, the family plunged into poverty, struggling to arrange even two square meals a day. To support his family at a very young age, Nana took up odd jobs. He painted zebra crossings and movie posters, often working part-time gigs that paid merely 35 rupees a day.

An Unmatched Dedication to Cinema

Nana started his acting career in 1978 with the film 'Gaman', later delivering stellar performances in 'Ankush', 'Pratikhaar', and 'Agnisakshi', which won him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. His sheer dedication could be gauged from the fact that he underwent rigorous military training for three years for the film 'Prahaar', eventually earning an honorary captain's rank. Whether playing an intense angry man or acing comic timing as Don Uday Shetty in 'Welcome', Nana excelled in every genre.

Apart from acting, he had a profound passion for farming and agriculture at his Goa home, while consistently extending a helping hand to distressed farmers in Maharashtra. His inspiring life story will forever remain etched in the hearts of millions.
