Finding blood in one's urine is always a matter of grave concern. For a 35-year-old man in China, what started as a routine medical checkup for painful urination turned into a baffling medical mystery when doctors discovered dozens of metal needles and pins embedded throughout his body.
How Did the Objects Get Inside?
According to reports, CT scans revealed that the foreign objects were scattered across his abdomen, pelvis, and bladder. Most alarmingly, a 1.4-inch metal pin had migrated near his pericardium, the fluid-filled sac surrounding the heart. Because the patient suffered from intellectual disabilities from childhood, he could not explain how the objects got there.

Understanding Self-Embedding Behavior
Medical experts believe this is a rare case of self-embedding behavior, where individuals intentionally insert foreign objects into their bodies. Surgeons successfully operated to remove the dangerous pin near his heart, while keeping the remaining embedded items under close observation to avoid surgical complications.
