In response to escalating security concerns and airspace disruptions in the Middle East, Air India has taken a major precautionary step by suspending all scheduled flights to and from Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah until October 20. This decision has significantly disrupted travel plans for numerous passengers looking to commute between India and Saudi Arabia.
The airline reiterated that the safety and security of its passengers and crew remain its highest priority. Air India is closely monitoring the evolving situation on the ground and will resume normal operations only when it is entirely safe to do so. Passengers affected by these cancellations are being provided with a complete refund for their booked tickets.
Embassy Advisory and Ground Reality
Following recent security incidents and aerial attacks in Saudi Arabia, the Indian Embassy has stepped up its outreach. Indian Ambassador Vipul issued a video message urging all Indian nationals residing in the region to remain calm and exceptionally vigilant. Citizens have been advised to stay indoors in safe buildings during security alerts and avoid uploading images or videos of attacks on social media, as this violates strict local laws.
The Ambassador expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the Indian national who tragically lost his life during the attack at the Riyadh airport. Furthermore, local authorities and hospital managements are closely coordinating to provide all necessary medical assistance to the 11 other Indian nationals injured in the incidents.
Alternative Travel Options and Helpline for Pilgrims
With major domestic and regional flight disruptions causing immense inconvenience, passengers are exploring alternative routes. While Air India and IndiGo services remain suspended, flights operated by Saudia, Flynas, and Flyadeal, or transit via neighboring Gulf nations, remain potential alternatives subject to real-time confirmation.
To assist Umrah pilgrims and stranded travelers, a 24/7 helpline has been established by the Indian diplomatic mission. Citizens requiring urgent passport or consular services have been advised to reach out through official channels and rely solely on verified advisories issued by the government and airlines.
