A Major Overhaul in India's Defense Logistics
In a significant move to bolster national security and defense preparedness, India is moving towards a unified logistics framework for its three armed forces—the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force. Traditionally, all three branches maintained separate inventory and supply systems, which often led to coordination challenges and delays during emergency situations.
The Department of Military Affairs (DMA) under the Ministry of Defence has initiated a solid framework to integrate logistics management. The primary objective is to make supply chains faster, more precise, and cost-effective during wartime or national emergencies.
Real-Time Monitoring Through Digital Platforms
The core of this integration is the proposed Tri-Services Logistics Management Application. This digital platform will bridge the existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems of all three branches, providing real-time data on warehouse stocks, spare parts, ammunition, and fuel.
Commanders will now have a centralized view of resources across services, preventing redundant purchases and ensuring timely delivery of essential supplies to critical locations.
Adopting Global Standards with Unified Codification
Another crucial proposal is the National Defense Codification System. Currently, different services use separate codes for the same equipment, causing tracking hurdles. The new system will establish a standardized coding structure across all military inventory.
