A Major Leap Towards Digital Healthcare
The Indian government's ambitious Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) is rapidly transforming the country's healthcare landscape. The primary objective of this mission is to create a seamless digital health ecosystem that supports universal health coverage in an efficient, accessible, and inclusive manner.
With technological advancements touching every aspect of modern life, digitizing healthcare records was a critical step. ABDM bridges the digital gap among various stakeholders in the healthcare sector, ensuring that patients no longer need to carry physical files or prescriptions wherever they go.
Over 56 Crore ABHA Accounts Created
According to official data, the initiative has witnessed phenomenal adoption. More than 56.67 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA) have been successfully generated across the nation. Through these unique accounts, citizens have securely linked over 34.89 crore health documents.
The ABHA mobile application serves as a comprehensive digital locker for an individual's medical history. Patients can easily store lab reports, prescriptions, and diagnosis details, and share them with verified healthcare professionals with just a few clicks.
Bridging Gaps in Remote and Low-Connectivity Areas
To ensure that the benefits of the mission reach remote corners of the country with limited internet connectivity or hardware, the government introduced assisted and offline modes for creating ABHA accounts. Various applications like the ABHA app and Aarogya Setu have been rolled out to facilitate smooth onboarding for citizens.
Verification of Hospitals and Healthcare Professionals
Transparency and authenticity remain core pillars of ABDM. Under the mission, nearly 2.35 lakh healthcare facilities have been verified, which includes over 1.66 lakh government facilities and approximately 69,633 private institutions. Furthermore, more than 2.84 lakh healthcare professionals are currently registered, enabling patients to connect with verified medical experts effortlessly.
Promoting Gender Equality in Healthcare Access
The mission has also made significant strides in achieving gender parity. Data reveals a remarkably balanced outreach, with 27.73 crore women and 29.11 crore men benefiting from their ABHA cards, proving that digital welfare schemes are successfully empowering citizens across all demographics.
