The ongoing Badrinath Dham pilgrimage has witnessed severe traffic congestion, leaving thousands of travelers stranded on the route. Due to a massive surge in the number of devotees, a 7 to 8-kilometer-long traffic jam has formed, stretching from the petrol pump through Narsingh Temple and Marwari Chowk up to Jogidhara, halting vehicles completely.
Gate System Leads to Long Waiting Hours
To regulate the heavy influx of vehicles, authorities have implemented a gate system where traffic from only one direction is allowed at a time while the opposite lane is halted. However, with the overwhelming number of vehicles, this system has resulted in agonizingly long queues. Pilgrims have reported being stuck inside their vehicles for one to three hours, with travel times increasing significantly.
Both locals and pilgrims note that the situation persists from morning till evening, consuming a major part of their travel schedule. The growing vehicular pressure on the narrow Himalayan roads has raised concerns regarding efficient traffic management during peak pilgrimage seasons.
A Major Challenge for Route Management
With thousands of vehicles heading towards Badrinath Dham daily, the local administration faces a steep challenge in streamlining traffic. While efforts are underway to control the flow using regulated gates, authorities continue to appeal for patience as they work to ease the gridlock and restore normal movement.
