The state of Bihar has repeatedly witnessed disturbing incidents involving harassment and violence against young women, raising serious questions about the overall safety and rule of law. Following recent controversies in districts like Jamui and Samastipur, another shocking video has surfaced from the Banka district, capturing the attention of digital media and triggering widespread public anger.
The viral clip shows a group of unruly young men physically assaulting and harassing a lone girl. The victim's hands are being twisted, and she is being beaten with slippers while other youths stand by holding sticks. Disturbingly, a provocative song glorifying criminal behavior is playing in the background, amplifying the brazen nature of the act.
The Incident at Historic Mandar Hill
Investigations reveal that this disgraceful incident took place on the premises of the famous Mandar Hill in the Bounsi area of Banka district. Mandar Hill holds immense religious, mythological, and historical significance, revered across Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist traditions. According to Hindu mythology, the hill was used as a churning rod during the cosmic ocean churning (Samudra Manthan).
Such sacred and heavily visited tourist spots are expected to be safe havens for pilgrims and visitors. However, the occurrence of such hooliganism in a public religious site highlights the diminishing fear of law among anti-social elements. Local residents have expressed deep resentment and are demanding strict and swift action against the culprits.
Police Action and Investigation Underway
After the video gained traction across various social media platforms, local law enforcement took suo motu cognizance of the matter. Police officials stated that the clip was brought to the social media cell's attention via WhatsApp. Subsequent technical verification confirmed that the video was recorded on September 3, rather than being a brand-new occurrence.
An FIR has been formally registered at the Bounsi police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act against six unidentified individuals. Although the identities of the perpetrators and the victim remain unconfirmed as of the filing of the case, police teams are actively analyzing digital footprints and conducting local inquiries to track down the suspects.
